Makayla had her shunt put in today. Everything went well and she was still a little groggy. They're telling us we may be able to take her home in a few days - which we are very excited about. We still have some things to learn before bringing her home.
Here's Dad and Makayla prior to the surgery
Here she is after the surgery. You can barely see the small bandage on her head, and the heart-shaped one on her tummy is where the other incision was made to put the shunt tubing in her abdomen
Here's a good shot of the small bandage on her head. The tubing they placed in is about 1/8 of an inch thick. I was surprised at how tiny the bandages were
Here's another shot of the bandage on her tummy. As you can see she wasn't very perky today. In fact, coming out of the "fog" was a little rough for her today. She had a trach tube during the surgery and her face is a little red from where the tape was

This breaks my heart to see her all bandaged up with all the tubes, etc. But at the same time, I have such an enormous feeling of gratitude for the technology and wisdom behind those who are caring for her and getting her well. I'm thinking of you!
