Trip to Tucson

Last weekend I took Friday off and we drove down to Tucson with my parents who are visiting. We "escaped" the heat - it was about 5 degrees cooler in Tucson - and visited Saguaro National Park. Tall cacti here we come!

Picnic lunch. Fortunately someone planned the park well and placed shelters to provide some shade for visitors like us.

We stumbled across a turkey vulture enjoying some roadkill.
This is in another part of Tucson. Mission San Xavier del Bac. It was built in the late 1700s - making it one of the older structures in the US.

Front of the church. Apparently they've been restoring it for 10 yrs. Looks like they'll be going at it for 40 at this rate.
It's always fun to get out and see some of the area - even if gas is over 4 dollars a gallon and you have to drive for two hours.
